New Shell Lab
2018 - 2020
New Shell Lab is a design project that investigates the possibility of re-purposing shell waste from the Norwegian shellfish industry into regionally sourced bioplastics. By creating a circular supply chain within Norway, the project explored the question, “How can organic byproducts from Norwegian industries benefit ecological growth?” A virtual exhibition of the project was published online at newshelllab.com in Spring of 2020.
In collaboration with Norwegian partners in Bergen, the material research from New Shell Lab was implemented to obtain research grants from the Research Council of Norway for preliminary material testing by SINTEF in 2019. The project was awarded “The Statsbygg Student Award for Interior Architecture” in 2020 by The Norwegian Directorate of Public Construction and Property (Statsbygg).
